The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is packed with quests, so much so that nearly every town you visit and almost every person you speak with has some kind of task they need your help with. These quests range from taking down enemies and wiping out camps to investigating strange events or, more commonly, retrieving specific items for someone.

While many of these item-fetching quests might seem routine, things change when a noble like a countess is the one making the request. You can bet the item is valuable, and the reward will be just as impressive. That’s exactly what happens in the Lifting the Vale quest in Bruma.
How To Start Lifting The Vale Quest
Before you can start the Lifting the Vale quest, you first need to increase your Fame to at least 10. After that, make your way to Bruma and head to the castle area.
Around this time, you should be approached by Tolgan, who is a servant for Countess Narina Carvain. He will tell you that the Countess herself requires your presence, but she is only available from 8 AM to 6 PM.
So, during the mentioned time, make your way to her and speak to her. After she introduces herself, she will ask you to retrieve a special artifact for her called the Draconian Madstone.
This will begin the Lifting the Vale quest, and she will give you a diary and a special key to help you obtain the artifact for her.
How To Get Draconian Madstone
The location the Countess will send you to is Dragonclaw Rock, which is located just northeast of the map, so make your way there.
When you arrive, follow the path west until you find a large statue. From the statue, go north until you reach a cave called Serpent's Trail.
This cave is located just northwest of Dragonclaw Rock if you want to head there directly or if you already discovered this location.
Enter the cave and keep progressing northeast until you reach the end of it. Be well-prepared, as it is full of enemies. At the end of the cave, you will find a door that leads to the Pale Pass.
This will take you to a snowy area with a singular path that you need to follow until the end. The path will also be marked by a few statues along the way to ensure you're on the right track.
At the end of this path, you will find some ruins that will lead you to a fort called Mouth of the Serpent.
Inside, progress forward and simply follow the objective marker until you reach the Venom of the Serpent part of the cave. Here, you will encounter the Akaviri Commander in spirit, Mishaxhi.
Speak to him, and then you will have three options. However, whichever one you pick will end in a fight with the commander, so be prepared for it.
Remember, he is a ghost, so normal weapons do not work on him.
After you deal with him, the secret door behind him will open, and you can progress forward. At the end, you will find the Draconian Madstone sitting on a table.
How To Complete Lifting The Vale Quest
With the amulet in hand, head back to the Countess at Bruma Castle and speak to her. She will ask if you've recovered the amulet for her, so give it to her.
As a reward, she will give you the Ring of the Vipereye, which fortifies your Agility and increases your magic resistance.
